Matter Colors

Blue - Our Universe

The matter “color” (categorization method) of matter natural to our universe. Blue matter encompasses everything that is an inherent and original part of our universe, which means that the vast majority of the people, places, and things that you will interact with in your lifetime will be predominantly blue matter.

Red - Tyr

Red Matter is the matter from the home realm of the Fey. This matter comes primarily from the Red Matter Universe, also called “Tyr” (p: Shear) to the Fey. Their central world (eq: The Dreamworld) of this universe was called “The Otherworld” by its inhabitants and was much smaller than our own. It had paths of ‘formed Otherworld’ that reached out into the universe in four directions like the roots of a tree, and wandering from these paths would risk getting lost in the ‘unformed Otherworld’ (eq: unformed Dreaming).

The realms in this world were located above the Otherworld instead of around it and orbited the center. This meant that they passed over each of the four roots several times in a thousand-year lifespan which translated to several billion years within the realms themselves. Finally, the Realms of Tyr moved to the center of their universe and fell into the Underworld as they met their end.

As the Sluagh and other Fey fled from their dying universe, they took a voidship called the Mag Mell and flew through the Void. There were complications due to a collision and the Sluagh used an escape pod to make sure they were safe, the rest of the Fey made their way to the Blue Matter Universe and made it home without fully taking over. Their arrival in our Universe brought about the introduction of Red Matter into our universe.

There are no Ashir1) who are confirmed as connected to, or dealing with, Red Matter.

Green

The most consistent source of Green Matter at present is bound up with the Far Realms, but it is not synonymous with Far Realms. Regardless of the location, Green Matter will convert Blue Matter into Green Matter with extreme prejudice.

Dread - Nightmares

Based on insights on the tablets given to us from Thylsyphyr, one of the deals made with The Nightmare King, and rumors and conjecture we heard from The Blood Queen, we have a few more pieces to the puzzle that is “Dread Matter.”

It is currently unknown whether there is such a thing as a “Dread Matter Universe,” as we know very little of Dread Matter, and what little we do know is only how the Dread Matter and its entities, known as “Nightmares,” interact with universes.

The Ancient Tablets that a group of us discovered when summoned by the Nightmare King displayed an artistic depiction of the past, the balance between light and darkness, and the approaching future of our universe and the roles of nightmares therein.

The First of the three ancient tablets depicted Nightmares, or perhaps their progenitors, bearing witness to our nascent universe's formation. It may have not been long after our universe stabilized that Nightmares were introduced into our cosmic ecosystem. It is said that Nightmares were made to evolve and adapt to any environment, making them able to exist anywhere.

The Second of the tablets depicted a “world tree,” as Thylsyphyr called it, with all its living inhabitants upon its branches. Within the tree the Soulfire burned brightly, and surrounding the base of the tree, the Nightmares were present. Whether this was a literal world tree or a metaphor for our universe, I cannot say. In many ways, both literally and figurally, this can be a depiction of the balance between the forces of darkness and light.

Upon the Third tablet there are only three objects depicted. The world tree, devoid of life with many twisted branches; the Soulfire, dim and waning; and at the top of the tree, instead of the many inhabitants of the universe and the nightmares at its base, there is a dark crystal in their place.

Based on these depictions, ‡Thylsyphyr’s insights, the ★Blood Queen’s conjectures, and what little we have coaxed from the ⁰Nightmare King, this is what we can piece together;

-Dread is produced much like any emotion, from intelligent, feeling beings, regardless of the universe. Unlike them, however, it can linger, manifest, and coalesce. Much like the Void, Dread Matter can “seep in-between the cracks,” so to speak. The former Queen told of rumors that Dread Matter may also be what remains when a universe dies. This may tie into how she briefly referred to it as Dead Magic, before correcting herself to say “Shadow Magic.” This confusion on the connection between Dread Matter and Erebus is similar to what the Old Order taught the Ashir about Nightmares. Whether or not this is true is to be seen.★

-Dread Matter, despite its emotional aspect as we understand it3), can only be kept in check by Dread Matter beings, despite their immunity to it. There is an aspect of empowerment or sustenance by “feeding” on Dread Matter. ⁰

-Nightmares are likely introduced to every universe soon after its formation, in order to maintain “the balance between light and dark,” meaning the natural formation of Dread Matter produced in each universe. The depictions in the second show the Nightmares keeping the branches of Dread from strangling the world tree. ‡

-According to the Blood Queen, Nightmares once existed in Tyr as well, but they were driven to extinction long before its fall. She postulated that their extinction could have contributed to the death of Tyr. ★

-Without Dread Matter beings, like Nightmares, keeping Dread in check with a universe, it can disrupt the balance and eventually coalesce into a Dread Crystal. The Dread Crystal, depending on who wields it, can do most anything, but typically it gives one power over Dread while also being immune to it themselves. This seemingly could allow for an exponential increase of Dread Matter in a universe which will weaken and damage the Soulfire, eventually bringing an end to that universe. ★‡⁰

There is still much we don't know, but from what we have learned thus far, I have faith we can continue on our path and bring balance back to our universe.

Exo-Matter Derivatives

Realms sometimes contain different types of matter, such as red, green, and yellow that take on specialized forms although the exact reason or source for this phenomenon is not entirely understood. Some argue that the only reason for this is because the matter entered the realm during its formation. Creating an exhaustive list is impossible, but the most common types are Quintessence and Star Metal. Others include Yellow-Fission Particles, Ochre Gas, and naturally forming Red Fairy Paths.

from our universe, at least. Fable is from an alternate universe wherein the Alshee completed their terraforming of our universe into red matter.

it sucks but i am not qualified to speak on it in detail - Earwyna

Perhaps research into how the Mind concept interacts with Dread Matter can be an avenue we can pursue, in order to aid in keeping Dread Matter in check. A potential comparison could be made between them as with Disorder and Green Matter -Vordressi
